Dear Compris Family and Friends,
July flew by! We experienced everything from a few days over 100 degrees to cool 70-degree days, along with a memorable thunderstorm that brought some welcome rain. The vineyard was certainly grateful for the refreshing drink. The vines continue to look healthy, with a generous fruit set and clusters beginning to fill out. We've even spotted the very first signs of veraison. Veraison marks the beginning of ripening, when the grapes soften, change color, and the vine shifts its energy away from growing shoots and leaves and into ripening the fruit. The official countdown to the 2026 harvest is on!
Beyond the vineyard, Dru traded his tractor for the city, sharing Compris wines at events in Portland and here in Newberg. Back at the vineyard, we welcomed our club family for our sixth annual Pie & the Sky. We were blessed as cloudy skies cleared just in time for an unforgettable evening. Wooden Heart served incredible pizza, the OMSI team once again amazed us with their knowledge of the night sky, and plenty of "oohs" and "ahhs" filled the vineyard. It was a magical evening we were grateful to share with such wonderful people.
In the month ahead, we'll be busy preparing everything for harvest, which means plenty of cleaning, organizing, and getting the winery ready before the fruit reaches peak ripeness.
